Mechanism

Air can reach saturation through cooling or added moisture. Radiation cooling, movement over a cold surface, and mixing can produce different fog environments.

Aircraft response

Reduced visual references affect orientation and the transition between instrument and visual cues; fog itself is primarily a visibility condition.

Context & interpretation

Temperature and dew-point proximity indicate moisture conditions but do not alone determine visibility. Fog formation and dissipation depend on wind, surface energy and moisture.
