Mechanism
Dynamic pressure depends linearly on density and quadratically on speed relative to the air. It provides a useful scale for aerodynamic loads.
Aircraft response
For unchanged geometry and coefficients, higher dynamic pressure increases lift and drag. Doubling airspeed makes dynamic pressure four times larger at unchanged density.
Context & interpretation
The relation uses true airspeed. Instrument corrections and compressibility matter when relating dynamic pressure to indicated or calibrated airspeed.
